Jan Drabek fonds. 1951-1997.

The fonds consists of literary correspondence, drafts of literary work, published books and articles, reviews of Drabek's literary work, a small amount of personal correspondence and family papers, published photographs of Drabek, and a large amount of printed material accumulated for research purposes. There is a series comprising material Drabek created through his administrative role as a representative to the Writers' Union of Canada, BC Caucus, and as president and chairman of the Federation of BC Writers. This series contains minutes of meetings, correspondence, newsletters and other material.

Jan Drabek was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on May 5, 1935, the younger of two sons of a lawyer/journalist. He moved to New York with his family in 1949 while in his teens. He holds a teaching degree received from UBC in 1966 and taught at Kitsilano High School for ten years. He has also worked as a newspaperman, broadcaster, refugee resettlement officer and travel agent. Drabek has written a number of popular fiction and non-fiction books.
